Come join us for a Rattlesnake Research Hike!
Ages: 18+ only
Duration: 1.5 Hours
Time: Check in starts at 6:45. The event will run from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Prices: $120 per person
What to Expect: For this special event, PHS's venom manager Cale Morris will give the public an insight into his astonishing world of rattlesnake research. Cale will be leading a group of 10 individuals through his research area to locate and record data from previously captured and tagged Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. Cale will be leading using radio telemetry, which is a technique that uses radio signals to track the movement and behavior of animals. It's made up of three parts:
- Radio transmitter: Implanted into the animal, this part transmits radio signals
- Radio antenna: Picks up the radio signals
- Radio receiver: Transforms the radio signals into a beeping sound that gets louder as the receiver gets closer to the transmitter
While navigating through the research area we will likely see alternate native Arizona wildlife that can spark up discussion. Participants will be outfitted with leg gaiters and should be prepared to walk/ hike approximately 1-2 miles through dense vegetation.
